I met my friend Chris years ago when we were both co-ops here at JSC. We both came here to work after college and we had all sorts of fun times, including dozens of trips to baseball games since we were both big fans. A few years ago, Chris moved to Denver to marry his wife Lisa. Last month, they traveled to Belize to adopt their 6-year-old daughter Anicee! They are still down there, awaiting the final legal paperwork and stuff that will allow them to bring Anicee home. Chris, Lisa and Anicee all have a condition called osteogenesis imperfecta, which means their bones are very fragile and break easily. They each use a wheelchair, but of course that doesn’t stop them at all. Chris has gone on all sorts of crazy adventures, and is one of the few people I know who was always up for doing anything. Lisa had her own doggy day care business in Denver for years, and is an amazing cook. If you can’t tell, I think they are both pretty awesome.
A news station in Belize did a story about their family, and I’ve included the video here:
The last time I saw Chris was at my wedding last year, but you know how weddings are — the bride and groom don’t get much of a chance to really catch up with their guests. Hopefully I’ll see Chris and Lisa sometime soon — and get to meet Anicee! She looks like an awesome kid.
