Happy Easter!
It’s been a busy and fun weekend. The weather has once again been lovely — although we did finally turn on the air conditioning today. It was more for the humidity control than the temperature, but still. Let the record show that we officially made it to April 4 before we caved. Also let the record show that it was a certain husband of mine that decided to turn it on, and not me. But I like him, so I agreed. Ha!
Yesterday morning I met up with “The ‘Eves” for a bike ride — Steve, Steve, and Cleve. The Steves departed after the first 25-mile lap, and Cleve packed up after the second loop. I rode a final 10 miles on my own for a grand total of 60. Whew! It was a nice day for a ride. We went through some fog on the first lap, and the air was so damp that water dripped continuously down my helmet. The second loop was bright and sunny, and the last 10 miles on my own were breezy and warm.
I had a few hours at home to recover before Jose and I headed over to the Galleria area for the Miss Houston Pageant. I’ve been designing their program book for 3 years now and just did a complete redesign of their website, so I figured it was time to see the pageant in person. (I’ve been offered tickets every year, but it’s always on Easter weekend and the past two years we have been in Corpus Christi.) It was interesting, and I’m glad I finally saw the event that I’ve been working with over the past few years. And yes, Jose is an incredibly patient husband, isn’t he??
We finished the day in a much more low-key way with a pre-Easter dinner at John and Kelly’s! Kelly wanted an excuse to use her good china again, and it seemed like a great idea to the rest of us! We took a salad that turned out to be really tasty (we’ll have to make it again sometime), Milo and Vi brought awesome homemade rolls, and John and Kelly had ham, yummy potatoes, and deviled eggs. Melissa and Matt were latecomers after their super-long day of house-hunting, but fortunately we had plenty of food for everyone.
Today was a lot more relaxed — I barely got up off the couch until 4:00. We finally did the yard work we’ve been putting off for a couple weekends now with an hour out front edging and mowing. It definitely looks better now! Ah, the joys of home ownership.
Now I sit here sleep shifting…and hoping STS-131 gets off the ground tomorrow morning at 5:21 central! I’m working the rendezvous again this mission, but from the back room. Docking is scheduled for around 3:00 am Wednesday morning!
