Every morning as I leave for work, I drive by the golf course in our neighborhood. It’s fun to see the huge sky looming over the greens, with no houses, buildings, or strip malls blocking the horizon. The past few mornings have featured huge cloud buildups, and I’m sure we can expect more thunderstorms today.
And so it is August. How is it already late August? There are so many things on my “want to do” list that have been waylaid by the craziness that has been my 2009. Everything about this year has been spectacular, and yet everything about this year has been SO. VERY. BUSY.
On Sunday I officially declared my 2009 tri season to be a complete bust. I’ve registered for 5 races and only made it to the start line of one: the Y Freedom Tri. I’m signed up for the Clear Lake Tri this weekend, but I don’t think I’m going to make it out there. If the shuttle launch stays scheduled for Sunday/Monday, I’ll need to start sleep shifting Friday night. On top of that, we are expecting almost 20 of Jose’s family members in town this weekend for a visit to see our new house. (Good thing we have a big house!) I just don’t see how I’m going to fit a triathlon into the weekend.
I also have a long list of personal projects I want to complete, as well as a master’s project looming. I have a couple ideas for a master’s project and one really interesting prospect that I’d love to do, but presents some obstacles. We’ll see.
We still have a lot of things left at the apartment that need to be either thrown away, given away, or brought to the house. I must be honest here and admit that 75% of the stuff is mine, so it’s really on me to find some time to sit down and weed through the boxes to determine what needs to be kept versus what I really don’t have use for anymore. Much of it is “sentimental value” stuff; while I could keep it, how sentimental can it really be if it spends its time stuffed in a box in a closet?
At work, I’m just waiting on paperwork before I am officially certified. I will be working this next mission, STS-128, in the “front room” for the first time, so if you tune in to NASA TV in the wee hours of the morning, you might see me. Yep, luck was not on my side this time and my shift runs from about midnight through 9 a.m. or so. I’m going to be feeling pretty out-of-whack for a while once this mission launches.
Life is busy. But life is good.

This is off topic, but I love that you used the word waylaid. My co-workers are so sick of hearing about that word, but I used it once and no one knew what I was talking about and I was shocked. Now I ask people all the time if they know what it means. Huzzah for waylaid! Hmm…. well not huzzah for you being waylaid from your tasks. You know what I mean. 🙂

I have a stainless refrigerator too. It certainly cuts down on the clutter! Mine is magnetic on the side but mostly blocked by cabinets.
