So it’s Friday. I’m not quite sure how the week passed so quickly, but I’m glad it did. When the launch was scubbed again early Wednesday morning, it meant that the “contingency” rendezvous sim scheduled for yesterday went ahead as planned, so I spent the day in the control center. It was a good sim, with a particularly insidious failure — so sneaky that we didn’t even realize the full extent of its impact until we reviewed the sim in the office this morning. That’s both the best and worst kind of failure. In the long run with the benefit of hindsight, you learn a lot. But in real-time it’s almost impossible to 1) recognize the problem, 2) anticipate all the tiny but important effects and 3) react appropriately.
Our visits to the house have slowed as things near completion, but it had been a whole week (!) so we stopped by last night to check things out. We immediately noticed that we now have the standard two trees in our front yard.
We have a real front door now, as opposed to the fake wood door that used to be there.
They’ve also finished all the tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms, including the backsplash which looks AWE. SOME. I love it.

So what colors are you planning on painting? I like all your tile choices, but they are all very neutral. It would be very Sarah to offset all that with a bright color or two; I just don’t see you living in a monochrome house. 🙂

I know, overwhelmingly neutral, right? But they didn’t have any colorful options at the design center, at least not without a huge pricetag. There will definitely be some major painting going on when we move in.
We’ve talked colors a bit, but our tastes are slightly different. I think we both like some kind of light-to-medium green for the master bedroom.
The dining room/family room/kitchen/breakfast area is a whole other ballgame since it’s a huge open floorplan area. Jose likes the idea of dark red for the dining room, and I like that idea too — except I don’t know what we would do with the family room and kitchen. Light red is just pink, so that’s no good. I haven’t come up with anything else that pairs really well with dark red.
But my only other idea thus far is to use a couple shades of blue. Maybe dark navy in the dining room and a brighter blue in the kitchen/breakfast room, with a neutral in the family room. I loved my bright blue wall in my old apartment. Green would look good in the kitchen too I think.
On the plus side, this part of the house gets tons of light, so we don’t have to worry about anything looking too dark.
Anyway — suggestions welcome!

We’re going to tone our house house down to earth tones, still colored, but not as bright. you could do that.. a brick red color would go well with a whole pallet of green, yellow, and beige (for connecter hallways and such) earth tones.
also, my grandmother painted her (very large) bathroom jamestown blue (a benjamin moore color) and I love it and would like to find a place for that color too.
we let my aunt shannon pick all paint colors 🙂

I must be weird… but I love all the neutral colors… love them. We like to decorate with color because when you get tired of the color it’s way easier than repainting. Although I say that but my splashes of red all over the house have yet to bother me after 10 years.
