Katie and Joel, my sister and brother-in-law, arrived yesterday for a week of fun and wedding-ness. We quickly took them over to see our house, which has undergone more transformations this week. On Thursday, we made it over at twilight to find that insulation had been installed.
They were also preparing for brick, by the looks of the giant pallets of brick in the front yard. When we arrived yesterday afternoon, we found scaffolding in place but still no brick installed. However, over the course of a day and a half, the entire house had been sheetrocked! It still has to be cleaned up, the seams taped, etc, but the basic sheetrock is there. It’s amazing how different things look now. First of all, it is really starting to look like a REAL HOUSE. And it didn’t look smaller, like I expected it to. If anything, it looked a little larger now that the rooms are well-defined.

I love the windows in the master bedroom. I saw lots of houses with huge beautiful master windows, and bay windows, and little sitting chairs at the window, and I loved them. Ok, I have a thing for big beautiful windows, my house has lots, but I could use twice as many.
Also, for the night shift, I highly recommend that when you do your drapery for your bedroom you get a blackout shade. Mine rolls up and is hidden behind the nicer curtains, though Cari has a more decorative one. But its wonderful for sleeping during the day, as I’ve been reminded recently. We’ve bought all our shades on the internet, lots cheaper than the stores, I think the web site we have been favoring is blindsgalore.com, they cut to fit whatever your window is.
Yeah, I love the bay window too, it’s one of my favorite things in the floorplan.
Blackout shades are a good idea, but I actually don’t have too much of a problem sleeping as long as I can get it pseudo dark. My question at the moment actually is what to get for the half-circle window up high in the master bedroom?
I used to have one of those half circle windows in the house I grew up in. They make fanned shades for them. I am not sure how they are “drawn”, but they do exist (the one I had was always drawn, since that room faced east and it would wake me up in the morning). Another option is to get blackout shades for one of the guest rooms and just sleep there during missions, several of the FDO’s have said they do that so their spouse doesn’t wake them, etc..
I have seen the small half circle windows and my rent house has one. They make a shade that is basically a corrugated blind that is stapled at one end, but you cant open or close them.
I’ll say it again too…LOVE the arches!! And the windows! I can see many happy memories created here…I think couples married in May are especially blessed = )
