I joined Bobby and Bill, two of my fellow BAM members, for an hour-long bike ride through Seabrook this morning. It felt good to be back out on the road, and riding with those two pushed me a little harder than I would have gone on my own. After heading down Todville to Port Rd and back, we finished with a trip over the Kemah bridge and back. The weather was slightly cool, damp, and foggy — which seemed somehow fitting for my first real exercise of any sort in almost a month.
Yep, a month. I was burned out and I needed it, so I took it and felt only a little bit guilty. I feel much more ready to get back into the swing of things now. The Texas Independence Relay is coming up in March, and the Lonestar Tri (where I plan to do the quarter iron; I wanted to do the half, but I must be honest with myself — I just will not have time to train for that distance) kicks off triathlon season at the beginning of April.
The only casualty of my break will be the Houston Half Marathon in two weeks. I’m signed up, and I think it’s too late to transfer the registration. I’m not in shape to run it. I could run/walk it and finish in 3 hours or so, but if I did that it would really only be to increase my “streak” of running it for 6 years. I don’t know if that’s a good enough reason to go ahead with it. So we’ll see.
