Two questions for the masses:
First, I need an effective and simple and easy piece of software that will automate the process of backing up my hard drive onto an external drive. I’ve been doing it manually for more than a year, and I’m tired of it. I know there are a zillion different backup software packages, so I’m hoping someone can recommend a good, basic one.
Second, the pair of earrings that Jose gave me for Christmas broke. As in, the wire (10k white gold) that formed half of the clasp broke in half. I can’t wear the earrings anymore, which sucks. Now, they weren’t super expensive, but I also know that he spent enough money that they shouldn’t break within two months. What do I do?

Have you tried the standard backup utility that comes with windows? I use it, seems to work fine.

Aha! I think I just found out why some of your comments are being held. I did type in the secret password, but hit preview instead of post.
Now it says my first comment to you is being held, pending your approval. So you probably have another comment from me in some far-away mailbox somewhere.
Good reason to hit “post” and not “preview”…..

Take the earrings back to the purveyor and complain. They should replace them. If they refuse to help you and you really like the earrings go to a real jeweler, a local outfit where someone there makes and repairs jewelry and get an estimate on whether a repair is practical (i.e. it would hold up over time) and worth them money. The repair might be more than the earrings cost. A good jeweler can fix just about anything.

take the earrings back. they should be replaced; if not, file a complaint.
