Well, it’s semi-official — my area of town, Webster, has been placed under a voluntary evacuation order, with mandatory evacuation to follow at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. I’m about ready to go. A few more things to put in my car…photo albums, my computer, a sleeping bag.
I really really that we’re getting spun up for what will turn out to be a bit of wind and rain. It’s not looking like it so far though.

really, people, if you ask me, it is overreacting, but better safe than sorry.
Everyone is reacting to Katrina, which was not bad as far as the storm. it was the levee breach that did all the damage. you are ABOVE sea water, so you’ll be fine. Though I would leave just for hot water and electricity.
Becca says
We’re above sea level but only slightly. A storm surge over 15 feet in the bay near my house (which is what would happen with a direct hit of a cat 3 or above) would actually put a foot or two of water in my neighborhood before the tide receeds, maybe more. We don’t have levies to breach, so we just rely on the storm surge being low enough.(Galveston Island does have a sea wall though but it doesn’t protect me).

with the strengthening of the storm and maimi tom’s advice, it is good you guys left. i hope your house is okay. do you have flood insurance?
