I’ve posted a bunch of baby stuff this week, so I might as well continue with the theme. We went down to Corpus Christi last weekend to see Jose’s family and attend our first baby shower! Jose’s mom, brother Alex and cousins put together a really fun afternoon for both of us — the girls inside eating cake, opening presents and playing clean games, and the boys out back drinking beer and playing messy games.
If you don’t live in Texas, maybe you don’t know what mums are — i.e. those big ribbon things I am wearing. I have no idea why they do this, but it’s a BIG thing in high school for homecoming for girls to wear these things, and I guess it goes for other celebrations as well. I got two! Jose’s cousin Peggy made the one on the bottom and Alex’s girlfriend Krystle’s mom (who volunteered her house for the shindig) had the other one made.
Everything looked awesome! They chose a space/alien theme and found all kinds of cute decorations to go along with it. Crafty Peggy even made these awesome pins out of polymer clay (I mentioned them and included a photo in my 32 weeks update) that everyone got to take home as a favor. The cake was decorated to match some of the pins!
It was great to see all the family and see some family friends I hadn’t met before, and everyone was so generous — I am feeling so much more prepared for baby girl to arrive after receiving so many great gifts. She’ll be clothed, diapered, and successfully bathed for weeks!
Did I mention there was an astronaut photo opportunity?
After the shower ended, I went outside to hang out with Jose and several of his cousins and aunts who also stayed. The guys hadn’t started playing any of the games Alex had prepared, so I got to participate too!
The boys had to put a balloon under their shirt and then try to tie their shoes. It was pretty funny to watch. I think Jose’s belly is bigger than mine — ha! Although he doesn’t look too happy about it…
Then we had to drink 4 ounces of kool-aid from a baby bottle. No wonder babies are always hungry — you have to suck like crazy to get even a dribble out of those things. It was HARD.
Next, Alex microwaved 5 diapers with different chocolate bars in them and we had to guess which candy it was. The 100 Grand bar threw everyone off!
Overall it was a really fun and FAST weekend trip. I can’t believe that next time we see everyone, we’ll have a baby!

They don’t have mums in other parts of the country? Weird. When I was growing up my mums had real chrysanthemums in the flower part and they smelled so good. I loved them. I’ve never seen mums for baby showers, but sounds good to me.

we have chrysanthemums all over the place in philadelphia, but never made them into “mums”.
