The last time I shared this quilt, it was only a top! That was my submission for this year’s Pantone Quilt challenge and I entered the “just the top” category. I wanted to come back and finish it off sooner rather than later, and was happily able to do that at the end of July.

To summarize from my earlier post: I created this design back in March for my stop on the blog hop for “The Quilter’s Negative Space Handbook” by Sylvia Schaefer. I started with the classic Blackford’s Beauty block and using Sylvia’s design principles, I created this fun and energetic design. There’s a lot of same-color piecing that shows the structure of the basic block while still allowing larger areas of negative space.

I had already decided back in May when I finished this top that I would quilt a large spiral centered on the full block. After marking the small circle in the middle and getting my walking foot guide set up, it was easy to dive right in. I only got a little dizzy turning the quilt around and around and around — ha!

I don’t have any definite plans for this one, but I’m considering entering it in QuiltCon 2020. I think it’d be a good fit for either the “Piecing” or “Use of Negative Space” category. Or maybe “Modern Traditionalism.” Thoughts? I’m all ears!
