Everyday Objects as Spaceships | Eric Geusz
This is super fun — reimagining objects like a fidget spinner and vegetable peeler as futuristic rockets and spaceships. I think my favorite might be the sriracha sauce!
Why Time Management is Ruining Our Lives | The Guardian
Yes, weekends are real days too | Laura Vanderkam
I feel like I have to pair these two articles together. The first posits that by trying to manage our time to be more productive, we are actually making ourselves worse — an idea that I have actually spent a decent amount of time pondering on my own, as it applies to my own life.
And yet the truth is that more often than not, techniques designed to enhance one’s personal productivity seem to exacerbate the very anxieties they were meant to allay. The better you get at managing time, the less of it you feel that you have.
The second is from a time management guru. I haven’t read any of Vanderkam’s books, but I do listen to her podcast every week (which she does with another woman who is also a busy working mother, although not a time tracking fanatic).
A lot of her advice makes me a little squeamish, and I think it’s mostly because I have a different strain of Type A personality. But I do like her point in this post about how weekends are “real” time also. I have often felt in recent years that weekends are more of a slog than the work week. I think that’s just the way it is with small children sometimes. But I also want to try to be a little more mindful and appreciative of our weekends, and enjoy them for what they really are — time to relax, be together, and let go of some of the work week stresses.
Why Neil Armstrong is making news again | Brad Meltzer
“Instead of being loud, be calm.” I feel like there are a LOT of people — myself included — that need this advice on a regular basis.
Ballpark Rebrandings | TwinkieFingers on Imgur
This designer made new logos for all 30 ballparks in baseball. As a group they’re a bit too homogeneous, but individually they are great and there are a couple I really love. I love the incorporation of the Golden Gate Bridge into the Giants logo, the sun/orange on the Rays logo, and of course the moon flag on the Astros logo.
(But also, dang, there are very few stadiums that AREN’T named after companies anymore and seen together like this, it feels a little corporate and depressing.)

Painting the skin you live in | kottke.org
These are related only in that they are both from kottke, which somehow continues to be a source of interesting stuff year after year after year. The first is both helpful AND funny. (Win-win!) The second is a really awesome idea that all school art teachers should consider doing.
