Exciting news — my Triangles at Play quilt pattern is available as a kit from Craftsy! I made this sample quilt back in late May/early June and was thrilled to finally see it go “live” last week. It features fabrics from the Lily and Loom Modern Hand Drawn collection and they couldn’t be more perfect for this quilt pattern. Blues and greens are my favorite color palette, and it’s highlighted nicely with the additional prints in white and yellow.
Craftsy provided me with the lovely photos they took for the listing — which is officially the first time any of my quilts have been professionally photographed. Looks pretty good, doesn’t it!?
As part of the process of making this quilt and preparing my pattern to be incorporated into a kit, I had to do a little last-minute rework of the pattern itself. With my original cutting instructions, the pack of 15 fat quarters that Craftsy sent wasn’t going to be enough — I needed one more! But while they were reconsidering how they wanted to proceed, I decided to take another look and was able to quickly figure out a way to make it work with 15 FQs. Crisis averted!
I quilted this one exactly the same as my original version with simple lines running perpendicular to the diagonals formed by the half square triangles. The backing is solid yellow, with light blue binding — both provided by Craftsy. I even took the time to hand stitch the binding on the back, which is something I don’t often do. (I usually machine stitch the binding, partly because it’s faster but partly because I feel like it will hold up better over time. But since this quilt is unlikely to be thrown in the washing machine repeatedly, and since hand stitching looks cleaner, I went for it.)
Working with Craftsy on this quilt was a fun new experience for me, and a way to dip my toe into the “business” side of quilting. I hope to see some other Triangles at Play quilts in the wild in the months and years to come!
