I can’t believe it’s the end of 2014 already. Last year I put together a look back at all the fun things I did the previous year, and decided that would be a good way to wrap up this year too. Enjoy!
In January, I did a round up of all the things I made the previous year (something I plan to do again next week) and we enjoyed some lovely weather. I pondered what it really means to “get real” and shared some thoughts about this mom gig. February brought strawberry picking and Emma hit the 18 month mark. I made toddler valentines and added a countertop to the laundry room.
In March, we had family fun at Architects of Air and the rodeo. I finished my first (and to date, only) embroidery project, gifted my Out to Sea quilt to a friend’s baby, and turned 36. I spent April making a simple height measurement board, sharing (finally) Emma’s room, and presenting my master’s project at a UHCL student conference. We spent Easter with Jose’s family and I also reflected a bit on a week of solo parenting while Jose was in Moscow for work.
To kick off May, I shared photos from a family shoot and two trips to the zoo and talked about my Fitbit. Later that month, we visited Katie and Joel in Seattle and Jose and I celebrated 5 years of marriage. Oh yeah — and I finished my master’s degree!! In June, I loved running again after starting Couch to 5K, did my own 30 days of creativity…and Jose and I enjoyed a short vacation in Jamaica! I also thought about whether we’re in Houston for good or whether there might be reason to leave.
July began sadly when my grandmother passed away, but she had a great 99.75 year life! I wrote about my thoughts on sharing my life online, screen time for kids, and my life story on a napkin. And I ran a full 5K without walking for the first time in years! August was full of fun as Emma turned 2 and we celebrated with parties in Houston and Corpus Christi. I shared some thoughts on sewing with a toddler in the house and did a guest post for Julia’s Moms Make It Work series.
In early September, we traveled to Boston for Jose’s friend’s wedding and I shared a few tips for traveling with a toddler. Then I traveled alone to DC for the wedding of two college friends, which made me opine about the differences between life then and now. October was so full! I wrote about playing with my kid (and why it’s ok if it’s not always fun)…but one thing that WAS really fun was Emma’s first Kids K. We had more fall fun at a local farm, Zoo Boo, and the pumpkin patch. We spent time with my family in Charlotte, Emma graduated to a big girl bed., and I made her an adorable Mary Poppins costume for Halloween. I also revisited some career-related deep thoughts.
In November I recapped my day at the Quilt Festival, went to Rocket City U.S.A. on a work trip (and adjusted to getting back home), and shared a day in my life. I also tried to give myself a break from the self-induced pressure of a zillion craft projects. And this month, good ol’ December, I did some reflection via Reverb prompts and was a guest on The Lively Show podcast.
I’m feeling good about 2014, and excited to see what 2015 has in store!
