I had a lot of fun participating in a Starbucks Mug Rug swap in September, so I signed up for round 2. This time, instead of mug rugs, we’re swapping sets of 4 fabric coasters.
I used this tutorial by Notes from the Patch (which I also pinned here) to make these very simple coasters. The tutorial was actually for a mug rug, but it was easy to just reduce the size and turn them into coasters. Each one measures ~4 inches in diameter. The cutting and sewing involved is surprisingly minimal, and I was able to make all 4 of these in under an hour…although if you want to get technical, it wasn’t a continuous hour. I made them in 5- and 10-minute chunks over a couple days.
Yet again, I turned to my Moda Spring House fat quarter bundle because I love the colors and prints! (It was a large bundle — something like 25 fat quarters. I used this collection for my road trip case and Pointy quilt, and sent 3 of the fat quarters to my partner in the first round of this swap as a little extra. It has gone a long way already, and I still have several quarters and scraps left to play with!)
I added the ric-rac border because my partner’s “mood board” included several things with trim and detail. If I were making these for myself, I would have left off the ric-rac for a slightly cleaner finish. Either way, ta da! I’m pretty happy with how these turned out and hope my swap partner is too!
