When my parents offered to come down for a week this summer to stay with Emma while Jose and I took a vacation, the only question was “where?” After considering several options, we both realized that for this trip — a combo of our 5th anniversary plus it being our first true vacation since Emma was born — we basically wanted to recreate the extreme relaxation of our honeymoon in Belize. That meant beachy, tropical, sunny, and somewhere we could lie around all day and be perfectly happy doing so.

So we went to Jamaica! We flew into Montego Bay on Tuesday and were driven to the Ocho Rios area. We stayed at the Couples Sans Souci resort, which was beautiful and quiet. The hardest decisions we had to make were when to go float in the ocean (answer: anytime), what to have for dinner (answer: doesn’t matter, it’s all good) and whether to have another fruity drink (answer: yes). Other than one morning when we went to Dunn’s River Falls (one of the most popular attractions in Jamaica), we never even left the resort.

We flew back home on Sunday and despite getting back around 1:30 a.m. thanks to some airplane drama, I was still happy to get up at 7 a.m. yesterday to smother Emma with hugs and kisses. I missed her, but I know she had a great time with her grandparents.

All in all, it wasn’t our most adventurous vacation by any means, but it was definitely one of the most relaxing. And at the risk of sounding cheesy or cliche, I will say that six days of one-on-one time with my husband — free of cell phones and email and to do lists and chores and even our adorable daughter — was exactly what we both needed.

Jealous!
