Although I didn’t make it a formal monthly goal, I’m participating in 30 Days of Creativity again this month for the third year in a row. I haven’t actually been able to find evidence of an “official” 30DOC campaign this year like there has been in years past, but I decided to do it anyway because I think it’s a fun challenge! I do a lot of creative/crafty things already, but doing it on a daily basis forces me outside the box just a bit.
June 1 – I kicked off the month by starting on the June Once Upon a Time Sampler block. The fairy tale this month is The Princess and the Pea!
June 2 – I came across this quote last month and decided to make some simple “quote art” like you always see on Pinterest. The photo is one I took during a particularly nasty thunderstorm several years ago.
June 3 – More work on my OUAT sampler!
June 4 – A couple months ago, I bought one of those “kit” books from the bargain bin at Barnes and Noble. It was all about doodling, and while it seemed silly to buy a book about doodling, it turned out to be kind of fun. I have a little hand-made calendar on my desk at work and spent 10 minutes doodling a design for June.
June 5 – A couple years ago when I was daydreaming to Jose about having a freelance design business, we started throwing out business names and he suggested “16 Sunsets” as a nod to my space background. (A crewmember in low Earth orbit sees 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets each day.)
June 6 & 7 – I spent both days playing around with quilt designs, both by hand and in Illustrator. I’ve been having a lot of fun lately figuring out how to take patterns I see — in an iron fence, on wrapping paper, on rugs, etc — and turn them into quilt designs. How would I put it together? What’s the most efficient way to do the cutting and piecing? It’s like my own geeky puzzle game.
June 8 – More OUAT sampler work — which I did while sitting in the glider in Emma’s room as she rolled around in her crib refusing to continue her nap!
June 9 – I started on what will be a small sample of one of the quilt designs I came up with. I think it’d be really cool to be able to start posting quilt patterns from time to time, but figuring out how to piece things together is only the start — I have to figure out how much fabric is needed, and how to go from raw fabric to finished quilt top.
On to Week 2!
