Last Sunday, Emma and I met up with my friend Cindy and her son Jake at the “Moms of League City” festival. It was held at a local gym and while most of the stuff was outside, the gym was also open for general play. The pre-school area was fantastic — Emma had SO much fun running around in there. She also got to “jump” on a trampoline for the first time ever:

As you can see, she was a fan. We’re going to a birthday party at the same place this weekend, so she’ll get to “jump” some more.

On Tuesday I decided to try a new restaurant that just opened right across the street from work. It’s called Salata and I guess it’s a new-to-this-area chain? They do salads and salad wraps, and you go down the line telling them what you want just like you do at a place like Chipotle. I had high hopes, but it was totally underwhelming. They were SO slow — it took me 15 minutes to get through the line even though it was 1:00 and thus kind of late for lunch. And then they put way too much dressing on it — my veggies were dripping. And the piece of pesto bread I ordered as a side was just really bland.
I’m hoping this is all just growing pains, and they’ll work out the kinks after they’ve been open a little longer.

Emma’s had a minor rash around her mouth that’s been coming and going for several weeks, so I finally called her pediatrician on Monday. I haven’t been able to identify any particular food that might be causing it, so the doc ordered an allergy test which was done via a blood draw. Sigh. Emma has a very healthy fear of doctors and nurses, and as soon as she saw the white coat of the lab tech, big fat tears started rolling down her cheeks. She looked so sad that for the first time in her many doctor visits, I almost started crying myself!

As if the blood draw experience weren’t bad enough, later that night I burned the ever-living crap out of two fingers on my left hand when I touched an iron. Just totally, completely, absent-mindedly pressed my fingers against a burning hot iron because, apparently, I am a genius like that. It hurt like crazy but Dr. Google told me to put the burn under cold water so I sat around for a full hour that night with my fingers in a bowl of just that. Amazingly, it made a HUGE difference. I’ve got a blister on each finger, but it looks like they’ll heal up just fine.
And now I need to figure out how to jury-rig a cover for my iron (which is a small sewing iron, similar in appearance to a curling iron) so I don’t repeat my idiot move again.

Last night we went over to Gavin and Jen’s for dinner and Emma impressed me by eating all her green beans. Then as we were leaving, she gave everyone hugs. Toddlers hugging anyone or anything is basically always adorable.

By the time you read this, the recipient of my Out to Sea quilt will probably have arrived! I’m very excited to meet her.

Tomorrow morning Emma and I are doing the Yuri’s Night 5K! There will probably be a whole lot more walking than running since I’ll be pushing the stroller, but I’m still excited about it. I always envisioned myself running a race with my kid, but I haven’t actually done it yet because I wanted to make sure it was the right kind of course — where I could push the stroller without worrying about impeding others. The new Yuri’s Night course is open enough and the race is still small enough that it should work out great!

Looking forward to Emma hugs when you guys come visit! Also I am doing a 5K dog trot with Kenzie on May 17 so if you all are visiting over that weekend then you and Emma could join me if you want! In past years it has been a good mix of people with dogs running sort of fast, people running slow or walking with dogs, people with dogs and kids, and people with their tiny silly dogs in strollers (seriously, there are a couple every time I’ve done it).
