I mentioned on Friday that I was planning to replace the light fixture in our bonus room…and then I droned on about light bulbs for quite a while. I promise not to rant about light bulbs again, but I can happily report that our bonus room now basks in the glow from a nice, bright fixture!
Here’s what we started with:
I’ve looked at a LOT of different flush mount and semi-flush mount light fixtures on-and-off over the past few years. This small boob light already had two bulbs, and the main reason I’ve wanted to replace is that it doesn’t put out enough light, so I was dead set on finding a fixture that took three bulbs. I kept finding options that I really liked — but almost every time, I’d discover that the fixture only had two light bulbs. Dealbreaker. I think it was actually Erin who showed me the parts I ended up ordering from Amazon — this fixture plus this shade.
It was pretty easy to install, although we were waylaid on Sunday afternoon when we discovered that the screws that held up the old light fixture wouldn’t work with the new one. (They were 2-inch long screws due to the thickness of the old fixture. But they were too long for the new fixture, and the new one didn’t come with screws to actually attach it to the electrical box in the ceiling.) Jose picked up shorter screws at Lowe’s on Tuesday, and finished installing the light that evening.
The fixture has room for 3 bulbs of up to 100W each — perfect. It also came with a ton of extension rods that would have been great if we’d wanted to use it as a pendant, but I wanted it semi-flush with the ceiling, so we didn’t add any of them. The shade is 22 inches in diameter, which was perfect since the bonus room is so large. A smaller shade would have looked rather puny, I think.
Voila! It’s nothing fancy, but I love how BRIGHT it is!
