Time // 9:50 am
Place // At work. Things are super slow this week for me. I’m trying to work my way through a list of tasks I’ve been putting off, but motivation is low.
Eating // Nothing. I was running late this morning so instead of cereal, I got a breakfast wrap at Starbucks. They’re surprisingly tasty.
Drinking // Skinny peppermint mocha.
Watching // Not much. I’ve been busy with other things in the evenings. I did watch the Survivor finale the other day though.
Reading // An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield. It’s different than all the other astronaut memoirs I’ve read, and I’m enjoying it so far.
Wanting // A new camera. I know, I know, I just got my Sony NEX-5 six months ago. But last weekend we went to see some local Christmas lights and ran into a coworker there who took this family picture with his Canon 5D Mk III (aka a super nice, super expensive SLR). Despite the low light and generally horrible photographing conditions, the picture looked incredible. I won’t be buying a 5D anytime soon, but now I totally want to upgrade my SLR body. There are 2 primary reasons I don’t use my SLR much anymore — it’s bulky, and it doesn’t do very well in low light conditions. But it’s almost 10 years old. Newer camera bodies are VASTLY improved in low light situations. The above photo was taken at ISO 6400. 6400!! My 20D gets horribly noisy at anything above ISO 800.
I want a new camera. Again.
Thinking // About what’s going on in space. Last week a pump module on the ISS had a failure and as a result, the station can’t cool itself as well as it needs to. Some equipment has been powered down, and now the crew will be going outside for 3 EVAs on December 21, 23, and 25 — yes, Christmas day — to replace the failed pump with a spare. That means a whole lot of people will now be spending their holiday at work. Bummer.
Creating // Oh man have I been busy! I’ve made…6?…items in the last couple weeks and have a few more on the agenda for this weekend. I haven’t posted about any of them because several were presents, so expect a lot of “look what I made!” posts after Christmas.
Hoping // That tomorrow I won’t have to go to the post office. I’ve been in there every single morning this week! Monday? Buying stamps. Tuesday? Mailing Christmas cards using the afore-mentioned stamps. Today? Mailing a few gifts. The lines actually haven’t been too bad at all, but still. Enough with the post office!
Needing // To buy 3 more Christmas gifts. Then I’ll be done!
Anticipating // Christmas and some quality time off work with Jose and Emma!
