We had a busy and fun Halloween yesterday. Somehow circling back around to what was Emma’s first real holiday a year ago threw the past year into perspective — my little Piglet, who we had to prop up on the couch for photos, is no more. In her place this year was an adventurous, curious, walking, (sort of) talking little bumblebee!
While it poured and poured rain outside, the kids had a great time trick-or-treating through the daycare. Emma was in fine form — she danced to the Monster Mash, helped put M&Ms in the older kids’ buckets, and was constantly on the go in all directions checking out everyone else in their costumes.
(And the photo above has a bonus appearance by Jen & Gavin’s mini Darth Vader on the left!)
Double bees! And the older one was quite excited about it — so cute.
I made her bumblebee dress and despite the fact that it should have been a super simple project, it took me three attempts and a borrowed sewing machine to finally get it done. But it turned out great even if it did take 3x longer than it should have, and I personally thought Emma looked adorable. You know, in my totally unbiased opinion.
In other Halloween activity, I made my annual batch of owl cookies over the weekend to enjoy at work and at home. Yum! I feel like this year’s batch was one of the tastiest ever — the cookies were the perfect texture and flavor. Not sure what I did differently than any other year, but I’ll take it!
And of course we had to carve the big pumpkin we picked up during our trip to the pumpkin patch a few weeks ago. Emma supervised while I carved and I think she enjoyed the final result — even if she still called it a ball.
We didn’t get as many trick-or-treaters this year as we usually do, but Emma did get to help answer the door for a few of them. She seemed to enjoy it but I also think she was totally confused by why people kept ringing our doorbell! I decided she’s still too little to really “get it” so we didn’t even consider taking her out trick-or-treating. Next year…
Besides, she was pretty tired from all the activity earlier in the day! By 6:30, she was already laying down on the floor — a sure sign she was one pooped little bee. Until next year!

Love the pictures! Looks like a favorite day at daycare for sure! What a coinkydink — my owl cookies were some of the best this year too! I told that to Dad when I was making them before I knew that yours were the best too!
