Summary
I was in Charlotte all week, which provided a great opportunity for running in a pretty area and in nice fall weather. There are some sizeable hills so I was painfully slow, but it still felt good to be running outside and enjoying the scenery. I say it every time I think, but I’ll say it again — I really love running in Charlotte. My parents live in an ideal location for it.
The 5.2 mile run that I did on Friday was my longest in quite a while. I started out doing a 3/1 run/walk, but my Garmin spit out some sort of error about the lap counter being full about 20 minutes into the run and stopped beeping at the proper times. So for the rest of the run I did something more like 3-6 minutes run/1 minute walk. (And yes, I will admit that the motivation for running >3 minutes in many cases was to delay my 1 minute walk until it coincided with steep hills!!) Despite the hills, I covered the distance at ~12:30 pace without feeling too much worse for the wear, which is a pretty darn successful run for me right now. I’ll definitely take it.
My left hamstring has been bothering me for the past several days. I’m not sure whether to blame it on the Charlotte hills or on my overzealous 40-yard dashes, but I’ve been stretching well and it hasn’t gotten any worse.
I plan to build to at least 10 miles, and hopefully 11-12, by mid-late December to be ready for the half marathon in January.
[…] ended up taking the beginning of the week off in hopes that the aching hamstring I mentioned last week would right itself. That turned out to be a good decision, and I ran both yesterday and today […]
