It’s Day 8 of being furloughed. Woo.
Emma and I flew to North Carolina last Friday to visit my family, per the plans I made a few months ago before we had any idea all this furlough crap was coming. Jose was supposed to be flying to Moscow that same day for work, but his trip was cancelled along with everyone else who had been scheduled for work-related travel. So he was instead able to join us in Charlotte on Saturday thanks to a last minute ticket bought with frequent flier miles.
So we’re all on vacation-within-a-furlough! Or furlough-within-a-vacation! Take your pick.
On Saturday we had dinner at my brother Brian’s house and Emma got to hang out with her cousins Daniel and Lucas. Emma and Lucas were pretty freaking adorable together. First they had fun peering over the baby gate to see what was going on in the kitchen…
…and then they had fun playing with Daniel through the deck door…
…and then they went inside, only to have fun smushing their faces against the glass. That elicited quite a bit of laughter from those of us outside, much to their delight.
It’s crazy how much bigger both babies look since they were last together back in April! I hope we’ll continue to be able to go to Charlotte a couple times per year because it’s so much fun to have everyone together.
On Sunday we went back over to Brian and Cindy’s for lunch since Brian had smoked a bunch of pork, and then we took all the kids to the park for some fun. Yesterday we drove up to Durham to see my grandmother and celebrate her 99th (!) birthday, which was October 3. I’ll be sure to post pictures from those activities soon!
