I’ve been meaning to take photos of this since I finished it a week ago, but kept forgetting until it was already dark outside — and I wanted to take photos in daylight to show off how bright and pretty the colors are. But I finally remembered yesterday when I got home, so ta da! Emma’s triangle quilt:
I absolutely love how it turned out — the colors, the triangles, the backing, everything. I love it so much that I’m somewhat tempted to make an identical quilt in a larger size to use myself! I decided to use the backing fabric for the binding also to keep things a little simpler, and I quilted one set of lines in each direction. You can see the triangle pattern it makes on the back, which I think looks pretty cool.
It’s not perfect — and I’m SUCH an perfectionist when it comes to this stuff that I keep thinking maybe quilting isn’t the best hobby for me (ha!) — but I am doing my best to look past the imperfections, like a few spots where all the triangle points didn’t come together quite right. Because there are also several spots where the triangle points came together EXACTLY right, which prompted a happy dance.
Also just in case anyone was wondering, machine binding is still my nemesis. It looks awesome on the front — the best I’ve done of all my quilts so far — since that’s the side I could see, but there are some wonky spots on the back where the stitching runs off the binding itself. GRR! I’ve read so many tutorials on how to do this, but it still doesn’t come out exactly right. I need to make several mini fabric sandwiches with scraps just to practice binding over and over and over.
But despite my whining, I’m still in love with this one. I think it’s my best quilt yet, so I’m obviously learning and improving as I go, and that’s encouraging! I’m proud of myself for this one, I really am.

Beautiful! I love the colors you picked and the simplicity of the triangles. I miss sewing and always wanted to get into quilting, but… free time is fleeting. My sister in law works as a photographer for Stash Books (http://www.stashbooksblog.com/) – they have some cool modern quilt books with neat ideas.

I love this quilt. Beautiful colors. I haven’t tried one with equilateral triangles yet, but it’s on my list. I’m afraid of those points, too! I have that same backing material so maybe I’ll hold it for a quilt like this! (btw, binding is my nemesis, too! This is an older post. How are you doing now?)

I’ve only made one quilt since this one, so I haven’t really given myself much more binding practice — but it seems to go a little better each time. One day it’ll be perfect, right??
