First I ran or walked a mile each day for 5 weeks. Now the goal is to do that or something comparable each day through Mother’s Day. (But I’m still calling it mile-a-day.) Here’s how I’m doing:
Apr 14 –
Apr 15 –
Apr 16 – 3.2 mile walk around Myers Park with Mom
Apr 17 – 2 mile walk around the lake with Jose, Emma, Katie and Joel
Apr 18 – 1 mile walk to Starbucks with Jose
Apr 19 –
Apr 20 – 3.2 mile walk around Myers Park with Mom
Apr 21 – 2 mile walk with Jose and Emma
We were on vacation in Charlotte this week, but with all the activity and without a treadmill to fall back on, I missed three days of working out. I kinda figured it would happen, but that’s two weeks in a row where I missed multiple days so this week: back on track. For real.
Still, the days I did walk were absolutely lovely. Charlotte is such a beautiful city in the spring, and my parents live in the perfect part of town. It’s really too bad I didn’t start running until I was in grad school — if I’d started in junior high or high school, I could’ve been running with great neighborhood scenery on a weekly basis. (But alas, I probably wouldn’t have appreciated it then. Spending more than a decade living on the flat, scrubby Gulf Coast has made me appreciate Charlotte’s environment about a zillion times more.
Gima used the stroller to put little Emma to sleep on several occasions!
And there are so many great places to walk or run! You can do big loops around Myers Park (the neighborhood next to ours, where my high school is) like I did with mom on Tuesday and Saturday. You can walk down to the park around around the lake like I did with Jose, Emma, Katie and Joel on Wednesday. You can walk up to Starbucks and then stop at a specialty olive oil store on the way back like I did with Jose on Thursday morning
Needless to say, this was only one of many reasons that I was super bummed to fly back to Houston today. But we did take a nice walk this afternoon to enjoy the surprisingly pleasant weather back here at home. Time to get back on track and have a solid week 9!
