First I ran or walked a mile each day for 5 weeks. Now the goal is to do that or something comparable each day through Mother’s Day. (But I’m still calling it mile-a-day.) Here’s how I’m doing:
Mar 31 – 2.5 mile treadmill run
Apr 1 – 1.4 mile treadmill walk
Apr 2 – 1 mile treadmill walk
Apr 3 – 1.7 mile treadmill walk
Apr 4 – 1 mile treadmill walk
Apr 5 – 2 mile walk with Jose and Emma
Apr 6 – 15 mile bike ride with Erin and Lisa
This was a tough week. I had a training class at work from Wednesday through Friday, and it started at 8:00. Normally this wouldn’t have been a big deal, but Jose was in the same class — so we both had to be at work on the early side, instead of just one of us. This meant getting up earlier and getting Emma to daycare earlier, and I just felt wiped out each evening. Nonetheless, I got on the treadmill…
…except for Saturday! Yes, I actually went on a bike ride for the first time in 22 months! (I fell off the bike-riding wagon after my last race of the 2011 season, then I got pregnant, and the rest is history.) My bike was back in great condition after a tune-up that included new aerobar arm pads, new brake pads and new tires. Erin, Lisa and I were going to do 10 miles but ended up doing 15 — and I actually ended up close to 19 total since I rode to and from Erin’s house to meet them. It wasn’t fast, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be ALLLLL kinds of sore tomorrow, but it felt good to get back out there.
Lisa and Erin leaving me in the dust on what I otherwise would have said was a SMALL hill…
On the “blergh” side of things, I discovered that while I can fit into my bike and tri clothes, I look like a sausage squeezed into them. So that’s awesome. I’m not going to meet the “9 months on, 9 months off” adage for weight loss, and even when I do get back to pre-pregnancy weight, I know the Emma-induced belly flab will not likely go away entirely. I may need to shop for some new tri gear!
