I’m enjoying 30 Days of Creativity in June! Here’s a rundown of my activities for week 2 (or you can go back and look at Week 1):
June 8 – Jason and Gavin came over for dinner and to watch Alien and Aliens with Jose before going to see Prometheus on Saturday. I didn’t watch the movies (because I am a wuss and don’t like scary movies) but I did contribute some facehugger cupcakes as dessert — pretty creative if I do say so myself! They’re strawberry cupcakes with strawberry frosting, with strawberry gummy straw candy for legs and tails. (Hey, Jose requested strawberry.) I added too much strawberry puree to the icing because I didn’t pay close enough attention to the recipe, so while it tasted good, the texture was really strange. Still, considering that I used frosting to make aliens, the weird texture was actually kind of appropriate.
June 9 – I used spray adhesive and safety pins to baste the quilt I’m working on. It’s a pretty dull process (so I didn’t take any photos) but definitely necessary.
June 10 – I started quilting the quilt I basted the day before. This one is going to take a while. Whew…
June 11 – Jose and I want to make some kind of spacey/astronomical quilt for our daughter based on where the planets are in the sky in August. I was trying to sketch out some ideas, but for now I must admit to being a bit stumped. I don’t know enough about quilting to figure out how to pull off some of these ideas. Googling is required!
June 12 – I was pretty low on creativity today, sadly. No photos, but I did get some pre-work done for an upcoming graphic design project so it wasn’t a total waste.
June 13 – More quilting. Like I said…this one’s gonna take a while! I also learned that sewing parallel straight lines is not my strong suit. Yeesh.
June 14 – We want to put some cloud decals on the wall in the baby’s room but they are surprisingly expensive. $20 or $30 doesn’t sound too bad, until you realize that you only get 5-6 clouds for that price. So I decided to try just making them myself from a $6 roll of white contact paper. These two are tiny (the big one is about 4 inches across) and they’re on wall in our living room (hence the darker blue) as a test. I think it just might work! I actually used a double layer of contact paper because I think it was too thin with just one layer. They might not look QUITE as slick as the decals I could buy online, but they are definitely 1) cheaper, 2) more plentiful and 3) easily removable or replaceable if necessary. I’m gonna give a go at making some larger clouds soon.

The real question is will you include Pluto in the quilt or not?

Probably not Pluto — but only because it’s not visible with the naked eye. We weren’t planning to include Uranus or Neptune either.
