It’s been a short week, but a busy one. Wednesday and Thursday were chock full of meetings as we prepare for the upcoming Progress launch on October 30. This will be the first Russian launch since the failure they had back in August, so that — combined with the fact that there is a Soyuz launch only 2 weeks later on November 14 — means that the standard pre-flight process I lead each time has been a little crazier than usual. In my old job as a flight controller, I had to go to a lot of meetings too, but there were only a few brief topics that actually applied to me. In my new job, I go to meetings where almost every single thing discussed applies to me. I won’t go as far as saying that I now love meetings…but meetings are definitely more interesting these days.
In other news, here are two of the three crafty things I did last weekend.
First, I finally made my own pair of pajama pants like the ones I made for Jose! (Like my crazy Los Novios fabric? I’m kind of in love with Day of the Dead stuff at the moment.) I mentioned that the pants I made for him turned out pretty baggy, even though I chose the size based on the hip measurements. For these, I cut the pieces based on the medium pattern instead of large, and the fit is MUCH better. I also made these in about 1/3 of the time it took me to make the first pair, since 1) I knew what I was doing this time around, 2) I didn’t start out by sewing the wrong pieces together, and 3) I didn’t add any pockets. The only problem is that it’s hard to tell what’s the front and what’s the back — and they are not symmetrical so there really is a front and a back. I need to make some tags to sew into the waistband.
Second, I made a yarn wreath inspired by this one I posted in Pinterest. I decided to go with fall colors instead of strictly Halloween so that I could display it for a bit longer. It took less than 2 hours to make — and most of that time was wrapping the entire wreath form with the brown yarn. I’m really happy with how well it turned out! You can also catch glimpses of some of our other Halloween decor. The banner on the mantle came from Target, the squash-o-lantern came from Joann’s, and the ceramic pumpkin was a housewarming gift that Jose’s aunt gave us two years ago.
I also made the jewelry frame I talked about but it didn’t turn out like I’d expected. I’ll post about that later. For now, I want to do even more crafty things this weekend! Ideas are already brewing…
Your projects look great! I like the colors you picked for your wreath much more than the originals!
Instead of tags, just take a needle and bright colored thread and make an X on the inside of the waistband at the back of your pants.
Ok that is a really good and easy idea.
Love the argyle yarn wreath — you can make one for me too! Your house looks ready for Halloween. Next — owl cookies???
I thought about owl cookies but it’s still too early. Next weekend!
I’m loving your crafty projects! My nephew, who is an architecture major @ UH is into Day of the Dead stuff right now, too. His latest art projects have been pretty cool looking skulls!
