After a very fun Friday that included both lunch and dinner out at yummy restaurants in honor of my birthday, I continued the celebration into the weekend!
On Saturday, Jose went flying and I had intended to get up, go for a run, and take care of some things around the house. I woke up when he left at 8:30 and grabbed my phone to check a few things. The next thing I knew, my phone rang and woke me up. It was Jose calling to tell me he was on his way home from flying. I was lying in bed, glasses still on my face, phone lying next to me. Oh, and it was 11:30. I guess I was tired!!
I dragged myself out of bed at last and we headed down to the Museum of Natural Science to see Hubble 3D! It was totally awesome. Most IMAX movies leave me staring at the screen with my mouth hanging open, but I think NASA activities and space exploration are particularly spectacular on the big IMAX screen. It’s only at that size that you can even begin to get a feel for the size and sheer majesty of space! It must be so awesome to be up there and able to look back at the Earth below.
We celebrated my birthday a final time, just the two of us, with a yummy dinner afterwards. I also picked up Mario Kart for my new Wii and played a lot of that. AND I bought two “classic” Nintendo games for $5 from the online store — the original Super Mario Brothers and Bubble Bobble. Does anybody else remember Bubble Bobble?? I think we used to rent it often from Blockbuster when we were kids. I remembered the music instantly as soon as we started to play. It was hilarious.
Yesterday I was due for a long bike ride, so I met up with a tri club friend who lives right around the corner. I was happy to hear she wanted to ride the same distance as me because 1) she rides the same speed and 2) I got to ride from home! (Riding from home is just plain easier than having to pack up my stuff and drive somewhere.) We did 50 miles on what turned out to be a VERY windy morning. The first half of the ride was a big loop of the Clear Lake Area, and the second half was an out-and-back to Alvin. It’s basically impossible to practice hill riding in this area, but the wind often makes up for that — at least in terms of expended effort! For a while, it seemed like no matter which way we turned, we were facing a headwind! Thankfully, the last few miles did result in a pretty nice tailwind to take us home. I’m very pleased with how well my legs held up — I could have gone another 10-20 miles no problem on the leg front, since we kept the pace comfortable all morning. But I was pretty sore in the back and, ahem, BUTT regions!
All in all, I’d call it a successful weekend!

No, there hasn’t been a cheesecake outing. I’m thinking we should go for a weekend lunch sometime soon. I think that would be most kid-friendly for Jen & Gavin.
