This week is kicking my butt. Some of our Russian colleagues are in town for a TIM (Technical Interchange Meeting) that’s being held in an office building off-site. I haven’t been at my desk all week and kinda feel like I’ve been sucked into a black hole. But here’s what else has been going on:
We put up our Christmas lights on Saturday. The first night, one string of lights mysteriously didn’t come on despite having tested them before putting them up. I figured I’d set the timer wrong so on Sunday I planned to check it — but they magically came on that night, and every night since. Very strange.
I attempted to make some really cute Bakerella snowmen cake pops for recipe club tonight. They taste fine but they look…a bit wonky. I seriously do not understand how Bakerella gets her balls so perfectly round, and so smoothly coated with the chocolate. It’s also tough to find all the ingredients. Her noses are candy-coated sunflower seeds but mine are tic-tacs and poorly made candy-coated almond slivers. I couldn’t find black confetti sprinkles either, so I had to color yellow ones with an edible ink pen. Basically, my snowmen are a ghetto version of what they should be — but I give myself an A for effort!
Last night, we got our Christmas tree. Last year we paid the tree place $10 to put a stand on it, but because of the way the stand was constructed, it blocked the trunk from sucking up any water and the tree got really dry and crispy. This year we decided to go back to putting the tree in a stand ourselves. We had some trouble, but eventually got it pretty stable…but apparently not stable enough, because Jose sent me this photo this morning. After I’d already left for work, the tree fell over! He rigged up a pretty sweet temporary arrangement to keep it upright until we can fix it tonight as you can see above. Ironically, I had told him the story last night of when I was in Charlotte one year sitting on the sofa and saw my family’s tree fall over right in front of my eyes. At least we hadn’t put any lights or ornaments on it yet, I guess!
