As part of the daycare’s summer program, every week has a theme. There’s camping and animal adventures and Disney and space (obviously). And dinosaurs! Dinosaur week was at the end of June, and ever since, Emma’s been asking to go to the museum and see the dinosaur bones. On Saturday we finally obliged and spent a few hours at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It’d been more than a year since our last visit, so we were definitely overdue! We did indeed see the dinosaur bones, along with an IMAX movie about pandas and the butterfly garden.
The best part was just seeing how excited Emma was to be there. The dinosaurs are a bit of a trek from the main entrance, so we passed a lot of other exhibits along the way and she was SO excited. “Look at that skeleton! Look at that picture of a pyramid! Look at that shiny shell!” It was awesome.

I think we’ve been to the pool at least once every weekend this summer and I’m enjoying it for so many reasons. It’s something the girls and I all love. It’s something that’s easy to do for 30 minutes or 2 hours, whatever we feel like. It’s something to do, period, to add some fun to our weekends. I’m already sad thinking about a couple months from now when pool season is over and we can’t enjoy it again until next year.

I feel kinda bad that we haven’t done a family summer vacation this year. Last year Jose and I went to Belize, and then we all went to Seattle, and then to Corpus — all in the span of a month. That was hectic, but this year has been the opposite, with no trips planned, and now that we’re deep into July it’s making me a little sad.
My parents are coming for a visit in a few weeks, but I’m wondering if maybe we could sneak away for a long weekend somewhere relatively local. Hill country maybe? I know there are some kid-friendly resorts in the Austin/San Antonio area and beyond. Or even just get a house in Galveston for a few days? If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears.

I’ll wrap up with a quick programming note. I’m trying out a couple affiliate marketing programs, namely Amazon and Share-a-sale (which does affiliate marketing for Craftsy). If you’ve been around here long enough, you’ll know that this blog has never been about earning money, and it’s very unlikely that will ever change. But I figured affiliate links might be worth a try for things that I already link to. Consider it an experiment, and if you have any thoughts on pros/cons of this, definitely let me know!
