Thanks for all the kind comments on my previous post. My mom was able to go to the memorial service for my friend that was held in Charlotte last Friday, and I’m glad she did. It felt like I was able to be there, at least in spirit.

In happier news — the Astros are going to the World Series!!!
If you dig into my archives, you’ll find quite a few posts about baseball. I had partial season tickets with a couple friends in the 2004-2007 time frame and have spent many, many hours watching the Astros over the years. I was at every single home postseason game in 2005 when they made it to the World Series for the first time but sadly lost to the White Sox. The years passed, the Astros got worse, I got married, and the Astros got even worse. Then I had kids, and life intervened, and I just didn’t follow baseball as closely as I once did. It’s hard to find the energy to keep up when there’s a ton of hectic life stuff going on. And — I admit — it’s hard to find the energy to keep up when your team is just NOT good.
But here they are! Just a few years removed from three insanely horrible seasons and they’ve made it to the World Series again! I’m so excited!!

In more exciting news, I’m going to Quilt Market this weekend! (This is not to be confused with Quilt Festival, which is what I go to every year and is NEXT weekend.) Quilt Market is an industry trade show so it’s not open to the public, but reserved for people who work in the quilting industry — shop owners, book publishers, fabric manufacturers, and independent businesses. Since I don’t fall into that category, I’ve never been.
However, this year I was able to help out a quilter and fabric designer who’s coming to town for the show by offering up my house as a shipping destination (ha), and she was able to get me a badge! I’ll be continuing to help her, and hopefully taking some time to enjoy all the sneak peeks of upcoming fabric lines and other quilty fun. I plan on keeping a pretty low profile but I’m excited to get the opportunity to check it out!

Other miscellany:
We had a cold front come through early yesterday and it is finally — FINALLY — looking like we are in for an extended period of more fall-like weather. It was in the 50s this morning! No joke!
I finished the Poppy dress for Emma’s Halloween costume on Saturday, so the only thing I need to do to finish up the girls’ costumes is put black spots on an already-bought red shirt for Charlotte’s ladybug outfit. The Poppy dress turned out really well! I’ll post a photo next week when she’s got the full get-up on.
In other sewing news, I’m about 2/3 done with my Range Backpack and am plugging along on my Gypsy Wife quilt as well.
