The first time I posted some “Emma-isms,” her talking was mostly limited to single words. These days she’s capable of full conversations…even if they’re often full of non-sequiturs and other nonsensical things.
Emma (reading a book in the back seat on our drive home): “Orange eggs!”
Me: “Yes! There are 4, right? 1, 2, 3, 4. How many orange eggs do you see?”
Emma: “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…”
Me: “No silly, only 4!”
Emma: “…Eleven!”

Emma (pointing at a small dish of lemons on the table): “Eat that?”
Me: “Those are lemons. You want to eat one?”
Emma: “Yes! I want to eat it!”
Me: “Ok, you can try it. But it’s very sour.”
(Emma sucks on a small lemon slice, then makes a face)
Emma (wagging finger and frowning): “That’s NOT an orange!”

Me: “Do you want some melon?”
Emma: “Watermelon honeydew cantaloupe!”
Me: “Ok, which kind do you want first?”
Emma: “Watermelon honeydew cantaloupe!”
Me: “Emma, you need to pick just one for now.”
Emma: “Watermelon honeydew cantaloupe!”
(The girl likes her melon. In all forms.)

One other subtle (but very noticeable to me) change in the last month or so was the switch from mama/dada to mommy/daddy. That one small shift somehow seems so much more “little girl” than toddler!

I loved when D was two! The whole world opened up to him and I loved hearing how he took it all in. Enjoy! (By the way, excellent counting, Emma!)

Isla’s favorite response to Which one do you want? is Both or All. She is getting a bit better, but she’s really not a fan of having to make choices. For a while, she would always second, third, and fourth guess herself.
She also likes to eat lemons.
