Day 11 of being furloughed. Day 11 of the government being shut down. GIANT EYEROLL for all of my elected representatives.
Jose, Emma, Katie, Mom and I all drove up to Durham a few days ago to visit my grandmother and celebrate her 99th birthday! My aunt and cousin joined us too, and we all had a nice lunch. I didn’t take many photos, but here are three good ones:
Here’s Grandmother with every single girl in her family — two daughters (my mom and my Aunt Nancy), three granddaughters (me, my sister Katie and my cousin Casey) and one great-granddaughter (Emma, of course). Pretty cool photo, right?
(Getting ready to blow out the birthday candles!)

I also gave my Grandmother a copy of this photo that I took a few weeks ago of Emma on her rocking horse — the same rocking horse my grandfather made for me 35 years ago. Emma also has 2 cross stitch pieces hanging in her room that were done by my grandmother for me. It makes me happy that I’m able to pass on a few things from my childhood to my own daughter!
